MONTEREY ICE STORM UPDATE

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN MONTEREY - NOW THROUGH SUNDAY 3/8. Call the volunteer coordinator at 839-8548 to help.

The following updates are occurring this week and should be conveyed to the public as you have adequate opportunities. We appreciate your help throughout the past week and a half, and sincerely appreciate your partnerships.

FOOD TRAILER:

The public food trailer, providing hot meals to citizens in the Monterey area, will operate from 305 S. Holly (in the parking lot of the Monterey Junction building) through Friday evening. The trailer will be closed beginning Saturday.

RED CROSS SHELTER:

The Red Cross shelter in Monterey is now closed. A few residents remain displaced due to electrical issues at their homes, but the shelter is now closed.

VOLUNTEERS:

Volunteers are still needed through Sunday to help with the cleanup effort in and around Monterey. Anyone with chainsaw experience who has a saw and safety gear is asked to contact the Emergency Operations Center at 839-8548 prior to coming to help.

DISASTER DISTRIBUTION CENTER:

The Distribution Center located at 203 S. Chestnut (Monterey Pallet building) will change hours of operation beginning Wednesday March 3rd. Wednesday through Friday, the Center will only be open from 2pm – 6pm each day.

CONTRACTORS WORKING IN AREA:

Citizens are asked to remember to slow down as they see workers cleaning up debris on area roadsides. We remind citizens that unfortunately there are those who have ill intent during times like this. Never pay someone up front for work they claim they will do, ensure if you hire someone that they are licensed and have worker’s compensation insurance, and all companies working inside Monterey City Limits are required to have a permit.

SIGN UP FOR EMERGENCY ALERTS !

Our new reverse 911 system, Accu-Reach, allows us to dial a series of landline telephone numbers (calls can be organized by zip code, street(s,) or by geographic area) to alert citizens of impending or occurring emergencies.

The system also allows you to register your cellular phone. Since these numbers are not registered to a geographic area, you wil be notified anytime an alert is issued in the area you sign up for.
